PLAN THE PERFECT SUMMER ROAD TRIP WITH (ALMOST) NO WASTE

Summer is a perfect time to grab your friends and explore your state (or a new one) with a road trip.  Here are 5 tips for a greener road trip with minimal waste but maximum fun.

1. Push a Prius

I know that one friend who has a Prius is always getting roasted, but now they might ~actually~ come in handy.  A Prius, or other hybrid, means less emissions while driving and less gas money.  Win-win?

2. Reduce, reuse, remember ur spork

Bring cups/straws/plates/napkins with you.  The best part about road trips? Eating ALL the food.  But when you are getting to-go often, that means a lot of paper and plastic waste.  Get the whole gang cups with metal or bamboo straws for drinks, and a set of utensils.  This will easily cut down on waste and it’ll mean less trash in the car.  Get a cool set of bamboo sporks here, under $10.

3. H 2 Ohmygodiforgotmywaterbottle

Don't be that person.  Don't forget that water bottle.  I remember when I was younger, road trips always seemed to end with tons of plastic bottles. Bring liter sized reusable ones and fill them at every stop.  Grab a pretty one here; keeps things both hot and cold for hours on end..score!

4. Hoard snacks

Ok maybe not ~hoard~ but like bring snacks! Bringing them along with you in larger quantities means fewer small packages will be bought during the trip. Less plastic, more snackage.

5. Breakup with chain restaurants

Maybe not completely, but try to eat local.  If you’re driving through new towns, make it a point to stop at the local Mexican joint rather than Chipotle (I love you Chipotle but #localforlife).  Supporting local businesses supports localized economies!
