Get a Vegan Tattoo at Home

In partnership with Stick and Poke Tattoo Kit

Stick and poke tattoos are all the rage these days; almost every girl I meet yanks up her sleeve/pant leg/etc. to show me a tiny line design, wave, or heart, some better than others….

I’ve always feared the permanence of tattoos, but after meeting my best friend (@pokedbymia // @shnake), I grew more accustomed to the idea. I knew if I wanted a tattoo, I’d want her to do it and I’d need the ink to be vegan/cruelty free. Only issue was my crippling fear of needles…

I found Vegan Stick and Poke Tattoo Kit, an Oakland based brand, that made cute little kits, and I reached out to get a kit. Behold, how to tattoo yourself (but probably ask a friend…just a suggestion) with a vegan kit!

The kit!

The kit!

First things first, the kit had a bunch of different size needles, ink, and a glass jar. What was cool and susty about it was the limited amount of plastic that was inside. Most stuff was made of renewable material which we were happy about!

What was cool about this brand specifically was first, the vegan ink, but secondly they care a lot about the safety of their customers. Here is an extensive how-to on how to poke safely and info on exactly what stick and poke is.

I have a bunch of friends who got stick and pokes in high school with no information, so the fact that this kit gives you everything you need to know is awesome. Onto the box!

Contents:

ink, pads, bandaids, how-to/ideas book, needles, towel

So we decided what we wanted and after about 30 minutes of hyping myself up, my friends held my hands and Mia got to work. It took her about 15 minutes to poke a little ankh on the inside of my wrist. The booklet had tips for a clean ink, plus some design ideas as well, which was dope for those looking for inspiration. They’re were a handful of needles so we can touch her up in a few months as well!

The finished product:
